Old School

I have seven weeks left of my eight week sabbatical. Seven weeks in which I'm going to revise one novel and finish another. Uh-huh.

The truth is I LOVE setting unrealistic deadlines. Makes me work harder. And I have been working...just not as hard as I'd like.

To blame? Twitter. Facebook. Obsessive blog reading.

So I'm going old school. For at least a couple of days a week, I'm unplugging for three or four hours. My computer will be a word processing machine, just like in the old days. I might even bring my laptop to our wifi-less library and set up camp.

Think it'll work?

  1. Yes! My first big gift from my grandfather was a word processor in 6th grade. I thought I was THEE coolest. Yeah...trying explaining what a word processor is to 6th graders today. Ha!

    Go for it, Loretta!

  2. I can't give a professional opinion, but I think that sounds like a fantastic idea. I have been considering my own shut-it-off schedule for the sake of my sanity.

  5. Jo--I brought a typewriter/word processor with me to college. The typewriter had a little window where you could see one sentence at a time.

Alexa--I feel like I'll be so much more productive if I do.

Little Miss J--I know. Like Snookie says, "I feel like a freaking pilgrim in the 20s."

Paulie--OMG, I just checked that site out and it scares the crap out of me. I don't want to see what my online day looks like. I also don't want anyone else to see!

  6. It will totally work. We don't have wireless in our apartment--so I can take my laptop in the other room while Hubby plays on the internet on the desktop. Sometimes I go super old-school and take a wiro-bound outside. Then I can self-edit when I retype it in later.

  7. Good luck, Loretta! I'm proud of you. I love my social networking, but I know it cuts into my productivity. I love your solution. Hope you get lots done!!
