Team Jacob

OK, so I'm officially a Twi-Mom. I have tickets to the midnight showing of New Moon on November 19 (Thanks, Kathleen!). I will be just like the hordes of 12 year olds panting with anticipation, with one notable difference (besides--ahem--age). I get to go out for drinks with my friends beforehand! Yes!

I seriously love the spectacle associated with Twilight. I love young girls crying all over themselves at the sight of Robert Pattinson. I love Stephenie Meyer appearing at the mall dressed kind of like Stevie Nicks and getting a reception worthy of a rock star. I love that there are graduate students formulating theories about the Mormon influence in the series or launching post-structuralist third-wave feminist critiques of Bella Swan. I love it all.

Why?

Because it's fun. And the fact that this kind of frenzy stems from reading is all kinds of awesome. Team Jacob all the way!

  1. While I'm not a huge fan of the Twilight books (no one shoot me!), I also enjoy watching the craziness unfold as hoards of tween and teen girls envelop movie theaters across the country.

  2. I could not agree with you more. Regardless of whether you're a Twi-hard or a Twi-hater, I think we can all agree that Twilight has been good for publishing. It's amazing to see people get so excited about books. I love it!

    P.S.
Totally Team Jacob. Laura is on Team Edward, but she's only read the first book.

  3. My daughter didn't read at all before those books. Now she reads everything from Stephen King to Alice Hoffman (to my stuff!)

I love the excitement too. Books books books. And the worlds they create for the reader. YAY!

  4. I so agree! Despite the criticism associated Twilight, there's something irresistible about it. And the fact that it all started from one book....plus, I just like mass hysteria. And Taylor Lautner.

I'm neither firmly Team Jacob or Edward, but New Moon is a celebration of Jacob/Taylor's abs. And I embrace it.....wait, does that sound creepy??

  5. All I have to say is "Yay for getting kids to read!"

  6. It is cool, isn't it?

And, Sarah, I say embrace TL's abs, creepy or not...if Courney Cox can go to Cougartown, why can't we?

  7. This all sounds like loads of fun. It's too late for me, though, I think...Jacob is the werewolf, right?

  8. Oh, it's not too late, Alexa! Get sucked in (ha-ha!)

  9. And, yeah, Alexa, Jacob is the warm, hottie werewolf while Edward is the cold, girly vampire.
