(My Internet access is down. The geek cavalry has been alerted, but can't come to my rescue until tomorrow. I'm sitting at the public terminals at the library, typing while a line of very patient people, mostly homeless and/or elderly, wait for a chance to cybersurf. So this will be a short one, possibly with typos!)
OK, Beatles Rock Band was released yesterday (Anyone get it? Do tell!) as was the complete remastered album collection, in mono, a project overseen by Giles Martin, George Martin's son! (I'm sure Beatles fans are hyperventilating--everyone else, please be tolerant! This is a huge deal!) The cover of Entertainment Weekly has a gorgeous photo of John and Paul, with a number of rare photos peppered throughout a list of the top 50 Beatles songs of all time. It's easy to come up with a list of 50, but much harder to come up with the top five. So that is my challenge to you guys today. Here's mine:
1. Let it Be
2. Hey, Jude
3. Norwegian Wood
4. Blackbird
5. You've Got to Hide Your Love Away
What are yours?
1.While my guitar gently weeps
ReplyDelete2.Within you and without you
3. Across the universe
4. Dear Prudence
5. Come Together
BTW: so funny I can hear your hushed voice inside the parentheses, you good, good writer you!
1. You've Got to Hide Your Love Away
ReplyDelete2. Ballad of John and Yoko
3. I Will
4. Hey Jude
5. Getting Better
Ooh, that was hard. I'm sure I've forgotten some of my faves. This really makes me want the digitally remastered version NOW. Especially since it doesn't look like they're ever going to be available via iTunes.
OK- I'm prepared to fail your challenge by not being able to come up with just 5. I am in a very Beatles place right now, so I'm going to blame it on that.
ReplyDelete1. Here Comes the Sun
2. Drive My Car (love the cowbell!)
3. ObLa Di ObLa Da (just like my licence plate)
4. The Ballad of John and Yoko
5. All Together Now
6. Get Back
7. One After 909
8. Norwegian Wood
and soooo many more!
I have to put Wes' (my first grader) favorites down too. He listens to Hey Bulldog and Eleanor Rigby over and over and over again every night while falling asleep.
Oh my god, 5? 5?? You are a cruel, cruel woman. How about top 5 albums?? That would be a LITTLE easier.
ReplyDeleteOkay. I just can't do it. I'm trying. I've had this open for 10 minutes. I. Just. Can't. So I'm going to be that annoying person who puts down whatever number she wants. Kathleen, we're in it together on this--I feel your indecisiveness!!
Here's my whatever:
1. All You Need Is Love
2. In My Life
3. Love Me Do
4. Dig a Pony
5. I'm Only Sleeping
6. Oh! Darling (LOVE this song--LOVE it. Saw Aerosmith do it in concert last year--rocked!)
7. She Loves You
8. Yellow Submarine (I just saw Jimmy Buffet do this in concert two weeks ago, it was AWESOME)
9. Help!
10. Hey Jude
11. I hate you.
Kathleen & Jo- HA! I knew you guys wouldn't be able to do it!
ReplyDeleteEveryone--LOVE the lists. I'm fascinated by what people have chosen!
This is cruel! (And awesome) I will agree to top 5, but can I plead that they are in no special order? Or maybe they are...maybe they arn't...I'm not even sure I know! Oh, and PS- This is the best post ever!
ReplyDelete1) Because
2) Across the Universe
3) Hey Jude
4) Come Together
5) Instant Karma! (okay that is pretty much cheating, but this list is fucking hard anyway so I'm taking an easy out!)
God, Lucy in the Sky is pissed at me right now...
Amy! Lucy in the Sky was waiting in the wings for me, too!
ReplyDeleteWow--Lucy would have been my real 11...freaking weird that she's everyone's almost-favorite...
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't believe I forgot Because!!!!!
1. All You Need Is Love
ReplyDelete2. In My Life
3. Eight Days a Week
4. Get Back
5. A Little Help from my Friends
This is Joanna's husband. She made me post. Big Beatles fan too, and apparently I can keep within the set limits!
Joe! I'm honored! You're the first male poster--OK, scratch that, it sounds a little pervy--you are the first guy to post on my blog! Whoo-hoo!
ReplyDeleteAnd, how cute is it that your top pick is also Joanna's?
hehe--we're losers. It was the song that closed our wedding...we left before it ended and I could hear it still playing as we pulled away in the limo-so cool.
ReplyDeleteThat is just so amazingly cute. I can't even make fun of it it's so adorable.
